COVID-19 Household Support Programme
The purpose of the BOM COVID-19 Household Support Programme is to allow customers who are facing financial difficulty due to the impact of COVID-19 to apply for the deferment of their loan repayment and interest relief as per the terms and conditions detailed below.
The Bank of Mauritius on 02 December 2020 announced the extension of the moratoriums granted to households and individuals to 30 June 2021, subject to the applicant’s eligibility.
As part of the series of measures under its Support Programme, the Bank of Mauritius had borne the interest payable on outstanding household loans with commercial banks for the period 1st April 2020 to 30th June 2020. On 05 January 2021, the Bank of Mauritius further announced that it will again bear the interest payable on the outstanding household loans with commercial banks, for the period 01 January 2021 to 31 March 2021.
Existing Retail Banking loan customers who are facing financial difficulty due to the impact of COVID-19 may apply for the following assistances:
A. Who can apply?
The Bank invites eligible borrowers to visit one of our branches bringing along all the required documents to help us process your application faster.
Any borrower (Salaried or Self-employed) who can demonstrate having been adversely impacted by the COVID-19 crisis (i.e. loss of employment, compulsory leave without pay or reduced income etc) and, having a consumer loan disbursed before 01 April 2020.
Overdrafts, credit cards, leasing facilities and other such facilities do not count as a loan and are excluded.
B. Facilities Concerned
Below Consumer loans disbursed in Mauritian Rupee before 01 April 2020:
- Personal Loans,
- Housing Loans and
- Educational Loans
Overdrafts, credit cards, leasing facilities and other such facilities that do not count as a loan are excluded.
C. How to apply?
Contact your usual MauBank representative or visit the nearest MauBank branch and bringing along all the required documents to submit your application.
D. Supporting documents to be submitted:
- Salaried individuals:
- Last payslip
- Letter from the employer confirming COVID-19 impact on remuneration or any other evidence acceptable to the Bank.
- Spouse’s NIC and proof of income or any other evidence acceptable to the Bank if applying under the household category.
- Self-employed individuals:
- Business Registration Number (BRN)
- Trade license (where applicable)
- Last 6 months Bank Statements (not required if an account is maintained with the Bank)
- Last MRA Return
- Salaried individuals:
Note: Documents may not be required for second-time applicant/extension request
