Bank of Mauritius COVID-19 Support Programme

The purpose of the Bank of Mauritius COVID-19 Support Programme is to allow customers who are facing financial difficulty due to the impact of COVID-19 to apply for the deferment of their loan repayment. The Bank of Mauritius on 07 September 2020 announced the extension of the moratoriums granted to households, SMEs and individuals to 31 December 2020, subject to the applicant’s eligibility.

MauBank invites existing beneficiaries willing to extend availed moratoriums previously and first time applicants to send us an e-mail on householdsupport@maubank.mu, or to visit one of our branches bringing along all the required documents to help us process their application faster.


A. Who can apply?

Any borrower (Salaried or Self-employed) who can demonstrate having been adversely impacted by the COVID-19 crisis (i.e. loss of employment, compulsory leave without pay or reduced income etc) and, having a consumer loan disbursed before 01 April 2020.


B. Facilities Concerned

Below Consumer Loans disbursed in Mauritian Rupee before 01 April 2020:

  • Personal Loans,
  • Housing Loans and
  • Education Loans

Overdrafts, credit cards, leasing facilities and other such facilities do not count as a loan and are excluded.


C. How to apply?

Applicants may contact their usual MauBank representative or send their new or extension requests for moratorium by email at householdsupport@maubank.mu. Customers may also walk into any MauBank branch, along with all the required documents to apply.


D. Supporting documents to be submitted:

  • Salaried individuals:
    • Last payslip
    • Letter from the employer confirming COVID-19 impact on remuneration or any other evidence acceptable to the Bank.
    • Spouse’s NIC and proof of income or any other evidence acceptable to the Bank if applying under the household category.

 

  • Self-employed individuals:
    • Business Registration Number (BRN)
    • Trade license (where applicable)
    • Last 6 months Bank Statements (not required if account is maintained with the Bank)
    • Last MRA Return
    • Spouse’s NIC and proof of income or any other evidence acceptable to the Bank if applying under the household category.
