As a responsible business organization, MauBank recognizes the integral role and responsibilities it has towards society. Driven by a strong commitment to improve the wellbeing of the communities in which we operate, the bank has conscientiously carried forward its CSR programme alongside its business activities. For us, this means pursuing financial growth, but not without keeping an eye on social and environmental concerns that require action. The overall aim of MauBank CSR programme is to bring positive change and impact on society as a whole, while maximizing the creation of shared value for the owners of the business, employees, shareholders and stakeholders.
Recognizing the important role NGOs play in the advancement of social initiatives, MauBank has supported projects implemented by them which will collectively contribute towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Mauritius has committed to achieve.
ASSOCIATION OF DISABILITY SERVICE PROVIDERS
ADSP is a Special Education Needs school for children and young adults with physical impairment and learning difficulties (mild to severe). In 2018 the bank has supported this NGO by purchasing a van which collect the children from their place of residence to school and financed the school fees of all the children for one academic year, including their study materials & hygiene kits. A children’s playground was built and a sensory therapy room was set up.
SOS Children’s Village Mauritius
During the financial year 2019/2020, the bank funded structured healthy living activities of the village to enhance the mental and social well-being of the vulnerable and sheltered children. Activities funded related to cultural diversity and pedagogical outings, the vocational training courses of four youths, and the initiation and training of children on vegetable & fruit cultivation and subsistence farming for food security.
The Trevor Huddleston Association
The Trevor Huddleston Association also known as CareCo in Rodrigues was founded with the collaboration of Craft-Aid Mauritius and is active in the field of education and training of children Living with Disabilities coming from poor families. In 2018 the bank has brought its support to the NGO in meeting its running costs and annual expenses.
With a view to increasing children’s access to enhanced special care from their parents for optimal growth and development, in 2019/2020, the bank financed individual skills-training to parents whose children have hearing and visual impairment.
Global Rainbow Foundation
The Global Rainbow Foundation (GRF) is a charitable trust founded by Prof Armoogum Parsuramen on 11 November 2011 with the ultimate goal of actively contributing to the welfare of People Living with Disabilities and their empowerment. MauBank financed the purchase of a braille embosser to support visually impaired children who have major difficulties in reading. This embosser was meant to equip the centre with the necessary facilities for the production of adapted educational materials and reading books for the blind.
Protection of Animals Welfare Society
PAWS is an NGO looking after animal welfare and aims at improving the lives of animals in Mauritius. In 2018, the bank partnered with the NGO for the extension of its sterilization services to remote areas. Some 200 dogs benefitted under the project.
The Bank renewed its commitment towards PAWS in its endeavor to continue with the sterilization of cats and dogs in 10 other locations across the island.
University of Technology Mauritius
The University of Technology, Mauritius (UTM) offers a range of comprehensive academic programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The Bank has been in agreement with UTM since 2013 and graduate students, who have been granted a sponsorship from MauBank are offered the opportunity of Traineeship at the Bank over a one-year period. In 2017, for the fifth consecutive year, the bank reiterated its support to provide scholarships to 10 needy students.
Breast Cancer Care
Breast Cancer Care (BCC) provides comfort, care and support to Breast Cancer patients, including free doctor’s consultations and therapies. It also carries out breast cancer prevention initiative through awareness campaigns and screening in the community.
In 2018, the bank financed the purchase of a linear probe to detect early sign of cancer and outreach screening and awareness activities across the island.
Association des Amis de Don Bosco
L’Association des Amis de Don Bosco is an NGO inspired by the pedagogy of Don Bosco which aims at the integral development of the person – body, heart, intelligence and spirit.
For the year 2019 / 2020, MauBank contributed financially to the infrastructural and facilities enhancement of the shelter to provide children residents of the shelter a decent place to live which meets hygiene, safety and security standards, conducive to healthy growth. Forging relationships within an environment of care, dignity and belonging help children to overcome the trauma of previous assault and homelessness.
